Bearcat ?

My new style bearcat is engraved cylinder, but the engraving is very shallow and hard to see, are they all like this ?

the two i bought a couple years back also are very faint. to the point I could not do a pencil transfer.

I have called Ruger and asked/requested if they could make a "plate" to show the engraving or even provide a drawing of what it should look like. But was told not available.

I have always wanted a poster or sign of the engraving on a Bearcat, but have never found one.

When the engraving is removed, and flutes added, it really enhances the look of the little gun IMHO. So a faint engraving is a step in the right direction.

All Bearcats have the 'engraved' cylinders. I compared the 'engraving' on a very early model to the 'engraving' on a new adjustable sight model and they look the same. On page 334 of the book "Ruger and his guns" the is a photo of the 'engraving', laid out flat. I am sure with a little constructive thinking it could be 'removed' and made into a larger copy.

The recent blued shopkeeper has a fluted cylinder, and in my opinion, the best looking Bearcat they have ever built.

EXCUSE ME! I'll rephrase my reply; all the Bearcats that I own, from SN 251 to the latest model with adjustable sights, have roll-marked cylinders, and I have compared the new and the old markings and they are alike. Since the OP was speaking of the 'engraving' that is all I was answering him about.

There are some of the old guns that look lightly engraved and some look heavily rollmarked. There were also different rollmarks but haven't done enough research on that to tell how many or when they different ones were used, but I know we have three different Super Bearcats in the 91-34xxx to 91-36xxx range that have differences in the engraving (and I'm not saying heavy or lightly marked). The rollmarks themselves wore out just like the other rollmarks, in fact I bet the cylinder rollmarks wore out faster because there was a larger surface area to cover.
I wonder if Ruger is laser engraving the New Bearcat cylinders now? Anybody know??

I have a bearcat made in 1964 an it is lightly engraved.

I looked at a stainless one in a nearby gun shop recently and it was light, but all of the rollmark was still visible.

I agree with 48flyer, the fluted cylinder does look good on the Bearcat.

Folks, Bearcats leave home roll marked on the cylinder. That is not to say that some engraver might not chase the roll marks with a graver afterwards. Technically, there is a difference between roll mark scenes and engraving, but both can be decorative.
