Material wise for a standard tub. Cast,steel or acrylic?

Steel, but insulate it upon installation.
Americast from American Standard is nice. Steel with an engineered coating so it has only a little more weight than steel but otherwise appears to be cast with porcelain.
Ours has been in for 20 years or so and we like it.

Our 1950s cast iron tubs are working fine. My parents fiberglass one looked so shabby after 7-8 years they replaced it.

My problem with tubs these days is I can’t lay down in them without bending my knees, and they get cold!

I’ve never enjoyed laying in a tubful of dirty water that’s infused with the crud I’m trying to wash off various areas of my body, but that’s just me.

Can not remember the last time I took a bath! May have been in the early 60's
Not talking hot tub tho that's a different story. Trouble is the warden getting so
she don't care much for the hot tube any more. Oh well another toy goes into retirement maybe! ps

I was a shower man in the navy. when I got off ships I swore id own a house with a tub!
I’d say go cast iron. Ours is original to the house. The decades took their toll. Last remodel I was planning to replace it. But it turns out today’s tub aren’t made nearly as well. So the hired a company to refinish it. Turns out it was a wise move.

There's something about a tub that's long enough to lie down in completely and wide enough to relax in.

Only rule at our hose shower before soaking in hot tub.
If you knew what lives in a hot tub, regardless of how clean the users you would never go near one. While folks think they control what lives in there, they are sadly mistaken. And for heaven’s sake never, ever use a hotel hot tub.
One of my biggest customers was a hotel chain. They had a legionnaires outbreak. I tracked it to the hot tub. And believe me, the chlorinated that thing to a fair thee well.
Critters adapt and become quite happy breeding in chlorinated water. That’s why in industrial water systems we change biocides routinely.
