Bad luck fishing today.

Only thing my boy and I caught was a broken water pump.

Loaded up our gear in the truck to go fishing off the docks, halfway there I hear a whine and my temp gauge starts rising. Luckily next exit was a gas station, pulled off there (I NEVER pull off on side of road if it can be helped), coolant pouring out of water pump where the fan attaches. That pulley had about 3/4 inch wiggle room. We were only about 5 miles from home so I went in and bought a gallon of 50/50 and filled it back up. Was able to limp home, but on the turn into the driveway the belt slipped and I lost power steering. Went to O'Reilly's in town and bought a new pump and thermostat. Guess I know what I'm doing on my day off tomorrow.

Wasn't a Cummins powered Ram, was it? They have a water pump recall going on them.

All I can say is been there done that. As least you can buy a water pump, must be nice. And what's power steering?

I"ve pulled to the side of the road. Hitched a ride into town bought a water pump, sealant and antifreeze and changed those out on the side of the road. I never wanted to pay for a tow, cause I"m too cheap. Good you could limp it home.

Well, at least you have the mechanical aptitude to replace a water pump. I don't. (Unless I watch a Utube video that talks me through the repair step-by-step.)

Oh yeah been there too! Some years ago I had an old '59 Ford F-600 flat bed that had been converted into a roll back car hauler and it had a 429 swapped in.
Well on the way to the drag strip with my 1985 Mustang set up for racing and my Dad and son on board
6 miles from home the water temp starts to climb...the thermostat stuck closed.
So pull off on side of the highway and unloaded the Mustang and drove it back home with open headers and slicks! My son and Dad stayed with the truck and I came back in other car with new T-stat and go her going again. No racing that day!

Last weekend we were returning home from Gulf Shores Alabama on the interstate and there on the shoulder was a nice inboard/outboard boat sitting there with the right tire chewed to hell, nearest town was a good distance. Now since the wheel and tire were still on the trailer either they didn’t have a jack, or no proper sized lug wrench, or no spare. I sure would hate to leave my boat like that for someone to come along and steal. Bet that person had a long day.
