Back to Kodiak Island, is three times a charm?

I was just notified by Alaska Fish & Game that I drew the very sought after "Deadmans Bay" Kodiak Island Brown Bear Tag. Again. I have drawn this twice before. 2000 and 2005. My quest for my own 10 plus footer has been a life long dream. In 2000 and 2005 my dad and I went and I gave my tag to him. We bagged a nice 9 foot 6in.

In 2005 I return to hunt for myself, dad was with me. But that trip I left his ashes on the side of the hill, among the snow caped mountains, with beautiful flowing river below us. It was our faverate spotting knob. We called it the "Secret Spot" I saw a few nice Bears that trip. Past on them all. Why you ask? It just was not the same trip without him tbere, and I have Piloted, Hunted and Guided in Alaska almost half of my life. I'm turn 60 years old last June. Im still flying and guiding. But I will return in the Spring of 2021 to Deadmands Bay to vist dad on our knob. and will a little luck, get my 10 footer.

Below photo are of the 9 footer with an Eskimo friend sitting on it from 2000 Deadmans Bay trip. Dad's Bear. Then a Grizzly I bagged in the Arctic in 2018, and few other as we got thru the years.

If you have ever dreamed about a hunting trip to Alaska, JUST DO IT! And bring your Dad. Life is truly to short. Scott

I have never hunted Alaska, but saw plenty of wildlife while I worked there. Yep, if you get a chance to go to Alaska GO! Had I gone as a young man, I would have stayed! Good luck with your hunt Scott!

Good for you! I have dreamed of Kodiak since I was a kid...
A Kodiak hunt is out of my reach, but I can appreciate wanting to go. I would be very happy with a more affordable grizzly hunt though. Have a great trip and I hope you get that 10'!

Great story and pics. Best of luck on your 10" bear. I worked out of Alaska for 12 seasons but never got to hunt. I kept my spotting scope on the bridge to watch all the bears we saw during the salmon season.

BTW, how much work is it to get a bear that size packed up and hauled out? Just thinking back to some pictures you posted several years ago, with a pretty good sized bear hung outside a little cabin...
