I stumbled accross this, don't know why it has not been in mainstream NEWS

Yep, that'll work right up till the time the wind blows hard, the fog sets in, or there is some sort of mechanical failure.

Do these people completely ignore the fact that runways are long and straight for good reason?

I'm wondering about exiting the banked runway without damaging a wingtip or dragging a tail but what do I know

Wind would be a huge factor against it. Trying to figure out where the wind is coming from in a constant turn would be something! Along with that the landing speed would vary. Be landing down wind on roll out and then there also is the takeoff factor too.
Years ago we had a neighbor friend that was flying a old Aeronca Chief cross country with his wife. He had a problem and landed on a oval high school track. After correcting the problem his wife took a bus and Jack barely made it out and took a few branchs from a tree top with him.

As a lowly private pilot my first though was what a dumb idea.
Then I started doing a little math....
Using a 125-140 knot touchdown speed ( guessing at average airliner )
calling it 150mph for ease of calcs. The runway radius should be
somewhere about 5800ft.
This should only generate about .25 to .28 lateral G. Guessing that would
not feel so bad to the average airline sheep.
Suspect it would shorten tire and gear life.
The idea MIGHT not be as dumb as it seems

and those Gs will be while on a bank, so in effect it would "feel" normal

Looks pretty shaky to me. I've mostly flown single engine and have some hours in light twins and don't think I'd care to try that in a gusty crosswind. With the constant tun on a circular 'runway' the wind angle is going to be constantly changing. Even landing on a windless day would be interesting. The bank angle of that runway can only be designed for one narrow speed range. Just like on a race track, too fast and you go out the top, too slow and you fall into the infield. Aircraft operational speeds vary with load, density altitude, wind conditions and many other factors. Different aircraft have whole different operational speeds. I think this is one of those ideas that need re-thinking. Not to mention such a plane is going to use up a heck of a lot of real estate. Especially when you realize it's going to take plenty of room for an over shoot that goes 'over the wall'.

THE LANDING SPEED OF A 427, A SMALLER ONE IS ABOUT 150.
A LARGER JET WOULD WEIGHT 3 TIMES THAT AND NEED A RUNWAY DEPTH OF HOW MANY FEET DEEP.
THE FORCES ON LANDING GEAR WOULD DESTROY THE PLANE AS IT TOUCHED DOWN I FORGOT WHAT THE EXTERNAL FORCES ARE CALLED BUT THEY ARE IMMENSE THE SWAY AS IN A CAR IT ROLLS TO THE OUTSIDE

It seems like a dumb idea, with self-evident hazards: such as planes running into each other, while looking for their slot, or backing out.

Been flying for 30 yrs,.... and,... no thanx. I've seen pilots that have trouble with a down-hill runway (the never ending flare)......
