My wife serves me first but I wait for all to start. Kids let me shower first and they get out of the way without asking when I go to the chair in front of the TV or to the computer.

I don't lift a fork until my wife does. Guests are always served first.
My father showed that example to me back in the 50's.

I don't go that far but I do wait to eat until everyone is served and has their meal in front of them. I also don't eat in front of others if they don't have any food which always rankled me when I went to public meetings and had to watch elected officials eating during the meeting when members of the public had no food! I was taught it was rude to eat in front of others who had no food -- but I live in a very liberal area and attribute it to that!
When I was young, I was also taught the guest always got the largest portion and was served first along with the women! I'm the cook in our home and my wife always gets the largest portion -- which drives her wild but she also looks to heaven and thanks my grandmother and mother! I open doors for my wife and always walk on the outside of the sidewalk with her in the inside to protect her from cars passing by!

As a side bar, it took 40 years and the loss of multiple Aunts & Uncles before I got a chair at the Grownup Table. Dad had 16 siblings and Mom had 5, The Grownup Table only had 12 chairs. Dad carved, but he would hit the kitchen and pick while the food was coming out of the oven. Mom had a tendency to stick a two prong bbq fork into the gluteus maximus of those attempting to pillage off the bbq. 😲
