In another thread here, CaryC stated he was of the argumentative type. Had an uncle that would argue. Loved a good argument.
My uncle, my Dad's older brother, was a newspaperman, maybe an editor, for the Charleston, WV Gazette and a World War I veteran. His son told me of witnessing an argument between his dad and another man.
The two had argued maybe half and hour, and Uncle Maynard had backed his opponent into a corner from which there was no escape. Finally, my uncle said, "Look, there's no way you can win this argument. Let's swap around, you take my position, and I'll take yours, and we'll continue."
They did, and Uncle Maynard came out on top!
