Are Triple k holsters decent?

Yes, they are excellent holsters and fairly inexpensive to boot. I have about 6 or 8 of their single action holsters (many of which I bought through shopruger), and I have been extremely happy with them. It's pretty hard to get a better holster for the money you'll spend on a Triple K.

Thanks, I'll grab a couple & maybe one of those Allison Speed brush sets to put me just over $100. That should make it about 83 bucks plus shipping with the discount.

I got a triple k for my single six from shopruger and it is a great little holster. Nice fit and finish ;)

Here's one; hasn't been out a lot but I like it. Nope, it's not lined.

Like the last guy said they are not lined, and to me cheap looking, I would rather spend a bit more money on a better quality holster, you get what you pay for.

I have bought a couple, and find the leather and stitching a bit thin. Not a real heavy-duty product. Good for occasional use.

Guess they've changed gears since I was buying their western holster rigs direct from them back in the eary 70's to pack my SA's... those were lined, both holster and belt, almost too heavy duty, were very well made and a real bargain.

You'll be happy with them. As I said before, I have several of this style. I have used one of them about once a week for five years and it is holding up fine. The only thing you need to watch out for is the snap on the strap that goes over the hammer. Even though it is covered in plastic it will eventually leave a wear mark in the bluing from rubbing on the back of the frame.

You get what you pay for. They are made as cheaply as a leather holster can be made. I have one that I bought in haste and after inspection, have never used it. Which is okay, because I'll probably take it apart and use as a pattern for making my own.

IMHO, you're better off saving your money towards custom leather, which is not as expensive as you might think.

That's exactly my impression of the ones I've seen at shops and gunshows. Not by any means a top-line product.

Wow, maybe their quality level has gone down since I bought my last one. But I certainly have been more than happy with the ones I have.

ElrodCod, I hope that I didn't steer you in the wrong direction here. But I think you'll like them. And I still think they're a good value for the money that you pay for them.

And as far as custom holsters go, most are more than TWICE as expensive as these Triple Ks (some are even more), and the turnaround time for a high end custom holster is often a couple months (or more). Don't get me wrong.....custom holsters are nice....but you have to take it all into consideration to figure out what is going to suit your needs. I can see spending $100+ for a fancy custom holster to tote around my ivory handled Colt SAA (if I had one  ). But for me (and my $350 Rugers) the Triple Ks have always got the job done.

I ordered three from shopruger a few months ago for : Bearcat, Single Six, and 50th Blackhawk.44 Mag. I kept the Bearcat holster as it was substantial enough for it and returned the other two. Merry Christmas, jack

I can make a holster out of scrap leather (or Poron or thick plastic film) and a heavy-duy stapler that will "get the job done."

I have a couple of triple k holsters and am pleased with them. There are better holsters out there but you get what you pay for more money will get a nicer holster. If I were going to buy a holster for use I would probably go with a simply rugged holster.

I'm a heretic, If I went for anything custom it would be made in Kydex not leather. I'm sure these will be ok for the casual use that they'll get from me.

I'm with you Wayno - I have one for my .45BH and one for my single six - will probably get a third for my (newly purchased :D ) .357 BH. Work great for me as a general utility/truck carry holster that I can quickly strap on and head for the woods. My oldest is holding up good after a couple years of daily storage/occasional carry.

Most shooters who have never experienced "good" leather will never know the difference. I'm sorry but $78 is not a lot to spend on a top quality, custom leather holster that is made in the USA. It's a lifetime investment and if properly cared for, your grandchildren will enjoy it as well. Many mass-produced Galco and Bianchi holsters are even higher.

And the shooters who refuse to accept "good enough" leather are the people who keep El Paso Saddelry in business.

I agree with your points, and $78 is not too much for a good quality custom leather holster. But it's STILL nearly twice as much as a Triple K costs, and the wait time for an El Paso holster is 2 to 3 months. Doesn't do the OP much good if he is looking for a holster that he can use next week.

Don't get me wrong.....if I had the chance to trade all my Triple K holsters for El Pasos, Barrantis, or Simply Ruggeds I would do it in a heartbeat. But no one is going to give me that chance, so I guess I'll stick with what I have.......reasonably priced USA made hoslters that get the job done. And I don't have to worry about carrying them through brush and briars and mud and rain and snow, because I didn't pay that much for them. There is simply no denying that lower-end holsters have a place.

I would also trade all my Rugers for Freedom Arms revolvers, but it just ain't happenin'. There is a reason that a new Ruger Blackhawk costs $425 and a new Freedom Arms 83 costs $2,000. And it's the same reason why a custom holster costs around $100 and a Triple K costs aroud $40. But many of us buy Rugers because they work, and we don't need a Freedom Arms to get the job done.

If the original poster had asked what the BEST holster was for his single action, then I would have recommended a custom holster (Barranti, El Paso, Simply Rugged, etc.) But that wasn't his question. He had a discount coupon from shopruger.com (where Barrantis, El Pasos, and Simply Ruggeds are NOT sold) and he wanted to know if Triple K's were DECENT holsters for the money. They are. They're not up to par with the custom holsters, but everybody already knows that! That's why Triple K's cost less and you don't have to wait 1/4 of a year to get one.

A good place for good prices on Triple-K. I got a nice holster for my 3 1/2" BH from them.

TripleK makes servicable stuff. Over the years, I've had quite a bit of it, and some Hunter stuff too.
Back in the day, Bianchi was the standard all the others were judged by. I wore one of their River Belts (aka-Ranger Belt) almost daily for 11 years with no complaints.
Yeah, ElPaso makes perty stuff. But they's do well to include a welted seam which BTW, both TripleK and Bianchi still does.
I've got a pig-skin lined, floral-engraved holster that was bought from the old Texas Prison leather shop some 35 years ago that put's today's "custom makers" to shame.
Once upon a time, I owned an old Lawrance gun belt that was made from two plys of leather plus a lining of elk hide. The thing was either double or tripple stitched everywhere, and was strong enough to tow a truck with. I was young then and eventualy outgrew it, but I have no doubt that it is still in use by someone today.

Is the Ruger-offered TripleK built as well as the others that I mentioned?...no, not by a long shot. The one I have in front of me as I type this though, is perty-nice for the money. I particularly like the thumb snap, and the Ruger Logo that's embossed on the front.

Everything is relative.
You pays your money and take your choice.

I like the Ruger emblem stamped also, in fact, this thread got me looking at the site which I had never done....that Alaskan holster looks pretty nice!

Who worries like that??? Good leather does not cost too much but it does cost too much to NOT use it. I treat all mine the same, whether it's the custom El Paso or COWS rigs or the el cheapo $30 Oklahoma flap.

No, you don't need an ivory stocked Colt SAA or a Freedom Arms to justify good leather. This ain't a class war. If you're putting your sixguns to serious use, you want them in good leather, no matter what they cost. Bear in mind that the folks who may post disparaging remarks about Triple K, have probably been bitten in the posterior by cheap stuff. Be it leather, optics, etc.. Here's a $200 Single Six in a $200 El Paso Saddlery rig. It's since been fitted with a set of $200 claro walnut stocks and it gets used.....hard.

And all I've ever called it was "good". Not the best. If you want the best, you want Wild Rose Trading. This stuff, you will pay a lot for!

CraigC,

Very nice rig!

I agree with much of what you have said. As for being burned by cheap stuff, I have had bad experiences with both Hunter leather and Oklahoma holsters. No such bad experiences with Triple K. Maybe I've just been lucky so far.

I still think that there's a place for lower end/lower price holsters.

And when I talked about toting a holster and gun through brush and briars and rain and so forth, here's the kind of use and abuse that I was talking about.
100_0936.jpg

This holster (and gun) has been in service for four generations. It's came all the way from a county sheriff (turn of the century) to a butcher house (depression era) to a trapline/hunting rig (1960's) to now being retired in my safe. I don't think that it would have been one of the "high end custom holsters" of it's day (in fact I think it's probably homemade), but it has certainly held up pretty well.

For inexpensive, utility, "using" holsters, I prefer the nylon ones such as Uncle Mike's. Been using them for years with no problems, and they actually wear the gun much less than leather, even good leather. Would much rather use nylon than cheap leather.

My order came in today's mail. I put the calipers to them to check the thickness and got measurements ranging .152" to .170". Call it 5/32". They're not flimsey at all; I'd say they were quite stiff. They look just like the ones in the links that I posted. For the discounted price of about $34 each I think they're a bargain.

Just received a Triple K holster for my Ruger Blackhawk, looks to be made well , tight fitting ( gun is in holster to stretch it out a bit, like you are suppose to do). I am not Fancy. Looking into lobogunleather for a custom one. Still a Good holster in my estimation.

Craig C, I have to agree with you on gun leather, sorry guys anit no way I'm putting my nice Ruger's in a el cheapo hoster, I think more of them than that, no way triple k ( K must be for Kmart ) or uncle mike's that made in Cambodia.
Nylon is fine but buy Blackhawk made in USA, one of my favorate is holsters made by The Hunter Comany, the 1060 3 ply, with their drop loop belt, plain no fancy stuff not to high priced but high enough that they are lined and top quality, also like Galo, and Balanche these are not custom and all well made and at a fair price.
Elpaso is sweet a little out of my price range, but not so far I might not buy one some time, their conceal carry holsters are reasonable as any.
