you got it, it is the "overall length".....and will be slightly different from different "era" of cylinders, and make sure the 'edge' of the tips of your calipers do not measure within the 'ratchet' cuts, slide the cylinder more into and on the "flats" of the calipers.......ensure a more "positive" reading..........if there is ANY 'bevel (slant) to the stub (gas seal) end, you can get a different reading and also "see" if its NOT "square"......nice pictures by the way, just a bit MORE light, behind or into the chambers, so you can "see" the 'step'....put them next to a 22 caliber cylinder and if your eyes are "good" you can SEE the difference in the chamber diameters.......
