I happen to think that beaver tail is a very interesting leather. However, I can't seem to find any real good info on how to preserve the tails for tanning.

I am not sure how these were tanned but I bought them from a guy who made sheaths for years. He has a "source" for them... but dont wanna tell the source! ha ha
He sells them to me at a semi-decent price, so I won't push it. They are thin, maybe 4oz.... so I use them as overlays on about 6oz cowhide.... they seem pretty tough, though nothing like shark or elephant... my next projects!

Most beaver tails for leather work are veg tanned just like the hides used for holsters and saddles on a regular basis. Same "shelf life" once tanned and takes dye and burnishes just like the underlying leather they are being applied to. Convenient for work just like ShortBBL is doing here!
Sheridan Leather carries the tanned beaver tails. I can get the phone number if you'd like to have it, ShortBBL. No online store front. They sell them in everything from small up to extra large for varying prices. Medium, I believe, was $15 last time I ordered from them. Could probably do those two inlays with a medium tail and have just a little left over. That converts to about $40 per square foot, so NOT a cheap upgrade on that holster and mag pouch ;)
