The Pronghorn Antelope sheds its horns in october-November and by the end of December the horn is starting to regrow. These horns will increase in length and mass until the next fall. This antelope is a mature buck and I can almost guarantee him to be trophy class. Notice the obvious ivory tips on the horns already !! Dr.C

Nice pic. This Eastern boy has never seen a wild antelope. I had read that horns are never shed. If it sheds it's an antler. That's probably why I thought antelope did not shed their gear and were like bighorn sheep.

golferboy; antelope headgear is horns that are shed, and not antlers. They are shed every year with regrowth from horn 'cores' that remain in place after the sheath comes off. A month ago I have many photos of one horned antelope that at the time had only lost one core. The Pronghorn Antelope is truly a unique animal in many respects. Dr.C
