Another "Star" Super Single Six

I don't know the model number of this 9 1/2" Super "Star", # 63-94209 (1975), but aren't these rarer than the stainless model? I bought this off the classified ads for $300 shipped in 2009. It shoots like a rifle at 50 yards and hits the steel plate just about every time. I am thinking about a Ruger refinish, but I know that devaluates most old guns. Maybe it would be better to leave it alone. Thoughts?? Thanks, Big Larry

I know there were 2400 KS-9's Per RENE but I'm not sure on the
S-9. Something around the 2000 mark I believe. JMO

Its perfectly fine as is as a shooter!! Depends on YOU and if you want
to spruce her up again. Like Dan Tanko says "Nothing wrong with nice looking stuff"

I think you are thinking about the S4. The blue 4 5/8 in bl. single cylinder Star being more rare then the KS4, Stainless Steel 4 5/8 in bl. Star.

If you didn't put the wear on it and won't wear off the finish again the way you use it, might as well. Ruger makes them look like new and very affordable. I don't think they even mark them as refinished but somebody pls correct me if i'm wrong on that.
Recognize they can't do anything with the anodized grip frame.

Yes, I think the 4 5/8" blue "Star" is rarer than my KS-4. Neither one is seldom seen for sale. I got this one on Guns America for $325 shipped. The seller thought the "Star" was for a salesmans sample. I do have the original grips for # 63-08141. It too, like the 9 1/2", shoots real well. Beats out my pre M18 S&W. I had 4 of the new ones and shot two of them, and they didn't come close to the old one. It is my favorite Ruger. Big Larry

Wait a second....an S9 star marked LR only 9-1/2" Single-Six that shipped in 2009? I really need to know more about that, since that model was discontinued in 1975. It wouldn't surprise me if Ruger finally let one go out of their warehouse cleanings, but would be a first. If shipped in 2009, did it come with a fired cartridge case envelope? What is the date on that? What do the boxes look like?
As far as quanties of the S9 made, its really tough to guess on that. Everybody clambors onto the stainless ones because they stick out like a sore thumb and were only made for two years. Yes, the S9 was made for less than two years also, but I have to wonder if Ruger really made less of those than stainless, since the blue S9 should have been more popular at the time...afterall, there is a reason they dropped both stainless 9-1/2" models. Yes the blue S9 was discontinued also, but the blue 9-1/2" convertible continues to be made. Don't get me wrong, I think the S9 is still rare, but to me there may have been a few more of those than the stainless KS9.

Yes, that's when rugnelli shipped it to me, Jan. 2009. He had a few other "stars" as well.
I am leaning towards a factory refinish. The collectability is gone anyway. I have so many others to shoot, it will never get worn again. BTW, thanks again for the spectacular deal rugernelli. Big Larry

I love my SS 22LR with the 9.5 inch barrell, it shoots like a dream and I have a Bushnell 1.5X scope mounted on it (with a clamp type base, no holes in the Ruger frame); It's a real tack driver fer sure.

Mine is unfired in the box, so I had a chance to get a blued "Star" 9 1/2" I bought it. As I stated, it shoots like a rifle, and so I have no need to scope it. They are a little unwieldy on a quad or motorcycle so I have a nice crossdraw rig for my KS-4. Enjoy your very scarce Ruger. Big Larry
