ANOTHER SPECIAL ORDER 1886, .40-82

This one is heavy. A deluxe first year production .40-82 with a set trigger. It likewise shoots like a dream. When I took this foto I shot it 3 times at a rock in the canyon wall, shooting cast bullets and black powder. I was in some big ranch country not too far from Old Tascosa, a really wild town in the early history of the Texas panhandle. One can only wonder what or who had fallen to a similar sound in that same country 128 years ago.... Dr.C

That's a nice one, when I handle my old Winchesters I often wonder what these old guns would have to say if they could talk and where they have been, wondering if my 73's could have been used in Indian wars or if my 1886 45-90 was used for buffalo hunting like it was made to do.

That is a spectacular stock on the wonderful rifle. I have a difficult time realizing that was the norm back in the day. Today something like that would command a premium.

Holy crap on a cracker!!!!!!!! Doc, you are killing me. Don't know where you get all of these beautiful old Winchesters, but they are to die for. I only hope that you have put a few game animals on the ground with them, as that is what they were made for. Thank you for posting this one. It is a stunner.

I strongly suspect that the shotgun butt, special wood, and checkering were part of a special order for this rifle and each cost abit extra. Thjey were not the "norm", so to speak. Great first year gun! :wink:
