Anodizing?

I am being offered a Blackhawk, and I have only seen photos so far. These photos show the grip frame, which appears to be aluminum, to be in need of stripping and re-anodizing.

Any idea of what it would cost and where I should get it done? Ruger?

I'll appreciate any suggestions.

Years ago I had an article outlining a do-it-yoself process for anodizing. Can't remember the publication, but it involved using Rit dye and a car battery.

3 yrs ago at Shot Show I talked to every anodizer in attendance asking that very same question. The answer was the same from all of them. They could not anodize the Ruger grip frames because of the alloy Ruger used. Anodizing would result in total loss. Finally gave up and had some grip frames powder coated.

That explains why the "guncandy" company specifically says "don't send us any Ruger parts".

I think Ruger coats the aluminum Blackhawk frames, but doesn't anodize them, at least not in the usual fashion. To me it looks more like a cerakote or powder coat finish.

Just send it to the factory and let them handle it.
