Finally got to shoot my American in 308 this morning. I was only able to set up at 60 yards, and it was windy. Mine definitely prefers 150 grain ammo over 180 grain. Three shot groups with Federal Fushions and reloads with 150 grain Rem CoreLokts kept everything well under an inch, with all bullet holes touching in some groups. Reloads with 180 grain Nosler Partitions and 180 grain Rem CoreLokts went just over an inch. Federal 168 grain match loads shot the worse. Only shot two groups of three, and both went just under 2 inches.
I mounted a Nikon 3x9x40 ProStaff with Weaver medium Quad Lock rings. There is just enough room under the objective to slide a single piece of paper through. Two sheets wont do it.
I was really glad to see the improved tang safety on the American. It has an audible click when putting it on safe, but is quiet when taking off safe. I also like the bolt release on the RAR. It is better looking than the ones on the M77's. The trigger is very good but I will take mine down to a lighter pull for next time. With the free cheek pad Ruger sends the scope lines up perfect for me. I have two magazines and both worked very well.
I am very happy with my RAR.
