WOW! Here I thought I was getting a nice tablet computer to play music,
read e-books and possibly do some web browsing. All Wifi based, so all I
needed was to be in the area with my Wifi or with an open Wifi and things
would be fine.
What I got was (already returned it) a marketing tool for Amazon to have
easier access to my credit card and suck more money out of my wallet. :shock:
They do this by "giving" you many features and make options available.
Many of those options are "free" . . . . for 30 days. After which you MUST
explicitly cancel it or you will be billed a monthly charge, use it or not.
The selection of free e-books and music is durned nice, BUT . . . . . . . . . .
in the middle of the lists, are many, many, many items that cost you from
ninety-nine cents each, on up. If you are not exceedingly careful, you can
easily end up with a monthly bill from $30 to $100, just for the things
you presumed were "free", because of how you got to them.
Once you start listening to the free music, you end up needing to recharge
the battery (well DUH!). That's fine and is easy, but once you do that,
you are unable to get to the music again until you accept the MANDATORY
CLOUD USE!
Like I said, mine is on the way back (they DO have a very nice 30 day
trial use for the Fire HD. Return it if you are not satisfied).
Anyone that is/was thinking about one of those devices should look VERY
closely at . . . . . . . . all . . . . . . . . . . of the fine print
(there is a whooooole lot of it).
