Recently I asked my local FFL holder to give me an 'out the door' price on a Bearcat Shopkeeper. This the 3 1/2" barrel, fluted cylinder model, 0918. The gave me price of $640.70. This broke down to $595.00 for the gun, $35.70 MD State Sales Tax, and $10.00 to the State Police for there 'application handling fee. I found the same gun here in the 'classifieds'. The sale from here was for the gun. $ 380.00 for the gun plus $30.00 to ship it here to my FFL for a total of $410.00 plus $50.00 to the FFL. $40.00 for their transfer fee and $10.00 to the State. This netted me a saving of $180.00. Always look before one leaps. :D

$50 to FFL?? $40 for transfer fee (which is what FFL does)?? And $10 to State?? HSCBM!! You have been raped! Dont know what State you live in, but where I live costs $20 to FFL and its a done deal

No idea what that acronym means. FYI $40.00 is the going rate around here AND I am sure I would recognize being raped. Kinda easy to see what State I live in. You can either look under my 'avatar' or read my signature line. :D :D

I'm glad you shopped here and made a savings, but I pay $30 here for the FFL to transfer the gun, and only tax if it's new. The $50 transfer and the $10 state police I assume are punitive fees charged to increase revenues and penalize for the purchase of firearms.
How may other states have fees like these?

On a related note, I happened into a gun shop the other day, not really looking for anything, and found some 9mm 115 grain lead bullets, 500 count. The price on them was $65! I told the owner, no offense, but I can get them almost anywhere for $40, or maybe even a little less. So, he looked it up on his computer, and let me have them for $40, so I bought 2 boxes of 500. I am sure he had probably bought them during the drought of the Obama years at a inflated price, but of course now he cant sell them for that kind of money. Anyway, it never hurts to ask, the worst they can do is say no.

Gunman would you let us know the brand of ammo. $40 for 500 rounds seems pretty reasonable. I don't typically buy standard round nose so maybe that's why.

The transfer was $40.00, the State Police fee was $10.00 for a total of $50.00.I can get a transfer for $35.00 but would use up most of the saving in gas. I have dealt with this crew for years without any problems. They've all ladies. Two are older and a bit on the heavy side, then there is Katy. She can brighten a room just by walking in.

Yes, I am talking about just the lead bullets, for reloading. But the name of them is Silver Creek.

Transfer fees in Maryland are normally $75 - or they were when I still lived there. They are set by the FFL Mafia, and anyone who undercuts that price is severely ostracized. They have a captive market, they fully realize that fact, and they exploit it as much and as often as possible.

I was very fortunate in that I had a transfer dealer - a 'hip pocket' FFL, who lived five minutes away and only charged $20. He had people driving there from ridiculous distances, simply so they didn't have to pay the $75 their local dealers charged. These folks knew that they were spending as much (or more) in gas, but they didn't care.

I have dealt with three different FFL holders in the area, Havre de Grace, Bel Air, and Darlington and never paid over $40.00. I might add that my first handgun purchase was in 1986 in Bel Air.
