...in addition to Fox Mike's birthday, the greatest ball player of all time was born on May 6 1931 - Willie Mays. He had all the tools: running, hitting, hitting for power, catching, throwing. Two years of military service in his prime years prevented him from surpassing Ruth's homerun total. Playing in Candlstick Park for many years didn't help his homerun numbers, either.

Wow, how can one of my childhood idols be 87 already? Willie wasn't just a good ballplayer, but his attitude was, and still is, something a lot of sports figures should work harder to emulate. "Say, hey...!" Happy birthday, to Willie and Frank, both.

Willie was pure class! Of all the greats I've seen since the late 50's, I've never had the pleasure to see Willie Mays play. Happy 87th birthday, Willie! :)
