ADDING ART TO THE ART...

Sometimes the best way to keep the memory of a legend alive, is to walk in their footsteps.

Our own Fermin Garza embarked on a journey a several years ago. His goal; to build a lasting tribute to the Grand Old Man Elmer Keith and his prized No.5 revolver, as well as the talented gunsmiths who created it. Fermin enlisted the many talents of master gunsmith Alan Harton to create his own version of the No.5.

Alan brought together stainless steel, carbon steel and ivory, and succeeded in building a modern No.5, true to the original, yet unique enough to not be a direct copy. Having handled and shot this fine sixgun, I can honestly state that it is THE finest sixgun I have ever handled by any builder.

This No.5 is wonderful example of the gunmakers art. The next step for Fermin's No.5 was to add some art to the art in the form of scrimshaw.

The Craftsmen involved in the #5 tribute project have all been the very best available. From Alan Harton, the welding, fitting, and blacksmithing as well as the Elephant ivory stocks of the sixgun itself lovingly created largely from scratch. From David Clements, the hammer and the trigger which were tuned to absolute perfection. From Mike Barranti, a most handsome hand crafted hand stitched Signature Series #5 rig that can be seen here: http://barrantileather.com/Page_3.html and finally from the good heart of Boge Quinn, the life like scrimshaw rendition of the Mexican Eagle. It is important to restate that Keith HATED a counterfeiter. He clearly stated that one should build his sixgun so as to be clearly NOT a fake.

If you've never met Boge you are just missing out on one of the absolute BEST folks you could ever meet. To me, he is much more than a life long friend. He is a brother. He clearly recognized the scope of this project and poured much heart and soul in it. It is a salute to The Grand Old Man of Sixgunning, Elmer Keith.

My thanks to Boge, Dave, Mike, and Alan. All that remains is the engraving.....

Seeing as how this sixgun was built as a tribute to the Grand Old Man himself, I think the Mexican Eagle was the proper choice!

So, what is the parts breakdown? I see the carbon steel vs stainless steel, who made the reciever?

The reciever is a custom made unit. It is stainless steel with the screws on the Colt side, however the internals are Ruger OM style for use with coil springs. It was a pretty raw casting when Harton started on it....
