A tribute to the passed.

Memorial day is for the men/women who have perished in combat. This is not Veterans Day!. Memorial day is for everyone who has given their life for my/your/our country. This is not BBQ day, not Beach day, not have fun day. It is Decoration Day. It is a day to remember the souls who have been lost to protect our freedoms. Please remember this. I know that it is the beginning of summer. Please just stop at one point and remember the men who died at IWO, Mogadishu, Fallujah, Belleau Woods, Normandy, and every little village in Vietnam. PLEASE. And for my best friend in the USMC barracks in Beirut. We went through basic, ITS and schools after.

It isn't just about WWII, it is about "ALL" of the folks who have died. I am so tired of hearing about WWII veterans. Yes, they were great. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Panama, and multiple other places saw men die for our country. Come on folks. Hell even Somalia, Libya, Egypt. Remember all of them. They were no less or no more then then heroes. We need a memorial for the men who died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Recognizing the need for a federal agency to be responsible for honoring American armed forces where they have served, and for controlling the construction of military monuments and markers on foreign soil by others, Congress enacted legislation in 1923 establishing ABMC."

"In performing its functions, ABMC administers, operates and maintains on foreign soil 25 permanent American burial grounds, and 27 separate memorials, monuments and markers, including three memorials in the United States. Presently there are 124,905 American war dead interred in these cemeteries, of which 30,922 are from World War I, 93,233 are from World War II and 750 are from the Mexican-American War. Additionally 14,907 American veterans and others are interred in the Mexico City National Cemetery, Corozal American Cemetery and Clark Veterans Cemetery. Commemorated individually by name on stone tablets are more than 94,000 American servicemen and women who were missing in action, or lost or buried at sea in their regions during World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War."

I look at sites such as these with special reverence. These Warriors did not return Home, except in memory.
As to those that have died in the Middle East......I may be wrong on this point but, I don't know of any memorials that were constructed prior to the end of a conflict.........and I would wager that we ain't even close to being done in that arena.......

Nice post buddy. Do you know how to read? Do you not comprehend what you have read? I really should have said "only about WWII veterans". How much do you hear about Vietnam Vets, Korean Vets, Desert Storm Vets on Memorial Day. How about almost zero. Memorial Day is not about WWII combat deaths. It is about ALL combat deaths.

Call me all the names you want but it is just showing your ignorance. I haven't seen one article, news story, etc. about my friends who died in Desert Storm.

Post retracted. If you had said "ONLY about WWII vets", as you corrected it, I would have not made my comment, and actually would have agreed with you. My family had several WWII vets and that wording just rubbed the wrong way.
I lost friends while in Vietnam. Yeah, we don't hear about them either.

At our church service last Sunday, our pastor specified all veterans who are no longer with us, whether they died in combat, or survived to return and died a natural death later. He had relatives, close relatives, of those veterans who occupy places in the cemeteries now stand for those relatives.

It is the memory of the service, not the death, that is honored. Those who survived faced the same devices of death as those who survived. It is the memory of these, and what they did, that we honor.
