Hi,
Didja let Greg talk you into selling that 'O3, Joe? He's got "that look" on his face... You know the one, "I should probably have one of these."
A buddy was on the rifle team at Cal Poly SLO in the late '70s. I don't recall if that was part of ROTC or something else on its own. I do know they were looking to sell a few of their older rifles, which, if memory serves, were well worn versions of your M1922, probably obtained from the old DCM (now CMP.) He had a deal with the range master about cleaning all the guns weekly in exchange for a fair amount of ammo. But, like most of us who've spent some time in college remember, there was seldom any actual money left for such frivolities, and he kicks himself to this day for not figuring out how to scrounge up the money to buy one of the rifles he'd so lovingly maintained. It was probably no more than $50, but might as well have been $50k back then!
He did have the money when a co-worker's Dad passed away, and the son had no interest in Dad's guns. Son sold him a 1943 Remington '03 that may never have been issued. It has been "sporterized", though, and looks a lot like that one of yours (metal's great, wood's not near as nice as yours), and it's a shooter. Don't think he'd part with it for the same $50 the son thought was the right price for it, though. So don't sell yours to Greg until there's a guaranteed replacement available!
