What does it take to get a distributer like Lipseys to make a special run Ruger fiearm? Lets say we got 200 forum members to say they would buy a Ruger #1H in 45/70 with a short Brush barrel and express sights or a #1H in 45/70 with a longer forearm and a 26-30inch barrel.... What would it take?

It just seems like alot of members and non members love the 45/70 caliber and the ruger#1.... these would sell fast!

That is just about what it would take; with the $$ up front!!
My experience is that you cannot get 200 people to put up the money for any specific No.1.

Just think of the people who love the 45/70 ruger and are not forum members!!...

Lipsey's got a half batch, 125 or so, of 45-70 with a 26 inch C wt barrel. I think they were gone in a matter of days. I love mine, it handles much better than the short barrel std. models. Great balance, and of course a fine shooter. There is a long thread somewhere down the page on these.

Well Lipseys watches this board. Let's do 125 of each a 1H-brush gun with express sights and a 1H long barrel. Count me in for 2!

Well, I may be way out of touch with current tastes, but I don't think a 1H brush gun would sell (more than 1 to you, and a few Alaskan types ;-).
Also, there are plenty of the Lyman centennials for sale on a regular basis, so I don't think a "long barreled 1H" would be a very good market move either.
You can always take a 458 1H and cut it down (and load it down) if you want a 1H brush gun, and the Lymans are essentially what you describe as a long barreled 1H.

I think you'll wait a long time for Lipsey to make either of these.

I'm a regular on the marlin forum on their 45/70 page. The two most desirable marlins to own right now- Can't be had! They are all gone!

Marlin 1895 STP & 1895 STD. Both 16inch 45/70 brush guns. Both limited runs of 500only. Those guys over there love the shorty 45/70. A very handy big bore.

I think the second batch of the Lipseys 26" barrel guns took three or four months to sell I got the last one they had listed a couple of weeks ago

I think you on with a Brush Gun but something like a 20" 358Win or a 375Win with the AH trimmed down a little or a more common Caliber like a 308 or 243

Just takes the $$$. many have asked about similar "why don't they make ______". I always tell 'em that if it's such a sure big hit, to simply put their $$$ up to have the contracted run made. Having tried this albeit on a smaller scale, it's not an easy task to get a large number of people to financially commit to a set item. Everyone always wants just what THEY ant with no deviation from their specifics. The barrel length, finish, chambering, wood, this that... People can't compromise. You the end up with 200 people with 175 different "I must be _____" for me to do it. Even if a agreement can be had of 200, you then are up against Ruger being willing to cut into their production to agree to make the special run. It's not a guarantee they'll go for it. Of course the more units the order would be for the more it sweetens the deal for them. That just means more $$$ on the line for the contractee. Then you have the VERY good chance that all those 200 people that agreed, won't all step up with the $ once the item becomes available. VERRY few will put the $ up front either so that again puts a big financial risk on the contractee (distributor) Having a run made and then having them not sell... kinda inhibits additional special runs of similar configuration.
Then again...if it's THAT much of a sure thing, surely putting up your own cash would be a sure profit producer.
