A rough few days... again....

Well.... after complaining about the lack of snow..... then the 3 weeks of wind.... and no snow...... we finally got snow!!.... so far about 20 inches or so, of light loose (good fer nuthin) snow.... I shoveled off my roofs, (I have to many roofs).. then the next day... yesterday... I began snowshoeing my winter trail in..... I took 2 hours to break trail to where I decided would be a first good push.. I did shoot video and I'll post one of these days....
I shoed it double wide so that there would be enough room for my bravo... snowshoeing in this type of snow is exhausting as there is no floatation even with shoes on.. the best you can hope for is to just punch it down so you don't have to push as much in front or you..
This morning I started out with the bravo... pushing trail... and pushing a LOT of snow in front of me.... there were a few tree's that needed to be removed, but I did manage to get about 1/3 of the way to my turn around.... unfortunately after I got through what I thought was the worst of it, I started slipping, as I was pushing snow up over my cowling and slowing me down and stopping me... this happened over and over.. all you can do is scoop the snow away and get a clear shot... but by then I was pretty tuckered out and soaking wet.... I made a turn around and went back home....
It's not snowing now, but it is supposed to pick up over night and there is potential for 24 to 30 inches over the next 2 days.... Which will effectively wipe out everything I've done so far.... more snowshoeing in my future.... I think I might as well just wait until it's all over.every time I try to go out and keep the trail open, it just snows so much it's a waste of time. The temps are supposed to be warmer.. near +30 degree's.. so maybe it will set up better...
Here is a video I shot about 5-6 years ago??... It basically what I'm going through now.. It was a late winter (march) snowfall where I had to break trail to the first (possible) connecting trail.... you might find it entertaining.. I'm suffering after all... and who doesn't love that!!!

Looks brutal having to snowshoe, we usually just get up in the middle of the night during a big dump here in Montana and make a couple passes with the sleds to make sure it is broke open from the cabin to the main road. We run both tracks with the snow machines a couple times and can usually get a truck out. I’ve met few elk or mule deer I’d put that much effort into with snow shoes! Good luck sir!

RC, we got the same light powdery snow here. After a couple of days it settles some and is tough to clean up. That’s the good news, the bad news is it’s supposed to rain the next couple of days. Then you have ice.

I've dealt with some significant snow a few times but can't imagine the amount you describe. When we were both working, I kept a 150 horsepower tractor with a 9' wide front blade and tire chains ready to run at all times. Many times pushed 4' of drifted snow the 2 miles to a main highway in the morning and found it drifted back in by the time I got home same evening.
Definitely no snow shoes for me as the new hip barely allows walking through 4" of snow on flat ground.

The amount of effort I’ve put into moving snow in my lifetime I could have built the Great Wall of China. All the hard work just melts away eventually.

we got about another 12 inches since it started snowing again... even though the temps are up.... (mid +20's) the snow is still light and fluffy... I was talking with a guy who owns a "superwide scandic" (skidoo).... we lives in town and was out trying to push a trail.. he was getting stuck over and over...
for those who don't know.. a superwide has a 24" wide track that is "usually", about 160" long as well... these new 4 stroke machines are often 800+ cc and are very powerful.. but very heavy as well.... my little bravo (yamaha).. is a very old school 3 stroke 250 single lunger... while it is light in weight and has a 15" wide 139" long track.... this snow won't hold anything up.... even with trail shoes on I'm sinking down to my knees, and really not packing much down.. It's just to loose.. the problem I'm having with my bravo is that snow builds up in front of it and pushes my nose up.. this makes my track dig down and before you know it, you're stuck... you dig the front out until you are level... then repeat the process..
hopefully BPJ, the snow will set up a bit... but I'll still have to snowshoe the whole distance like in the video...
The amount of snow we get can vary widely... last year we got a bit over 48 inches... not much at all... but we probably average over well over 100..... the most I ever saw was about 160".... but it was good snow.. not this sh*t.....
oh well... I'm just gonna wait it out.... rake the roof's, bake some bread and build a holster or two......
