77/357: rebarrel with heavy contour 16.5" FAST TWIST barrel, and chamber so heavy bullets of 250-300 grains could be chambered. Possibly even teamed to just the shorter 38 Spl case. Just thinking out loud. Threaded muzzle of course for 'quiet' coyote killing.
This idea keeps popping up even though I just purchased a Ruger American Ranch rifle in 300 Bill.
The 38Spl/357 mag seems like a natural close range subsonic round.

The 77/44 was custom made by Tom Denail of T D Manufacturing, in Bend, Oregon. It had an integral silencer. It was developed I believe for law enforcement to be able to dispatch animals in the city. The existing barrel was cut to 9 inches, the silencer then made up the rest of the 16.5 inch barrel. Very accurate! The write up was in Gun and Weapons for Law Enforcement by Al Paulson. Good luck!

Alan, this guy made me buy a Mystic http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=77685&hilit=357+mag+killer

If Ruger comes out with a 357mag or 357max American you can bet that I'm going to go with a SBR

Google and look at the "Whisper" series of cartridges, one of these evolved into the commercial loading for the .300 Blackout

The SSK website covers supressors for these and others as well: http://sskindustries.com/suppressors/

Reading several posts and forum topics on suppressed 77/357 Rugers,.. I keep seeing "....if this doesn't work maybe will get a fast twist barrel....." when 200 grain and heavier .35 cal bullets are discussed.
The Ruger action is one of the easiest to fit and chamber to as I've done several, I'm surprised more subsonic/suppressed fans have not done it. I guess it might be my next project but then I've planned on a 'can' for my Ruger American Ranch 300Blk. Now I wonder if a 35/9mm can would suppress a 30 cal rifle? Not enough $$ to have a can for EACH bore size!

I thought about a 300 BO but got a regular 308 instead just for ease of reloading and heck I'm just target shooting now.

I wonder how much advantage there is for a fast twist 220-300gr supressed 357 bullet over a 180gr XTP loaded down to about 900-1,000 fpc out of a stock rifle. Anybody know the energy at 50 or 100 yards? :D

I think the 308 is a wise choice and I was considering it too, however a friend threw his RARR 300Blk up for sale at $375 including a very neat padded rifle case (MidwayUSA) so I went the 300Blk route, then ordered Lee dies. Got plenty of 308 bullets from past 308, 300 Win Mag and 30/30 rifles to feed the 300Blk so, here we go.
I DO have a 77/357 waiting in the wings if the itch does not get scratched with the 300Blk!
The 308 may be the best choice since it too is offered in 16.5" threaded barrel IF you handload, and I do.

I am using the older version of this. http://libertycans.net/mystic-x/

If Ruger (or I buy a Encore barrel)comes out with a 357 max rifle I will upgrade to it.
