Thought I would post this. It is probably old news for y'all but it was new to me.

Cleaning silver: Take 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 2 cups of boiling water. Line a bowl with aluminum foil shiny side up. Put what you want to clean into the bowl and pour the solution over it. Let sit until the water has cooled down. Wipe it down with a clean cloth under running water to rinse.

I did some old belt buckles and am completely amazed at how well this worked.

Been cleaning silver this way for many years... since aluminum is higher in the galvanic series than silver, this process takes silver oxide & silver sufide (tarnish) and aluminum, turning them into silver and aluminum oxide & aluminum sulfide.

Works the same in a clean aluminum pan. Also works with salt instead of baking soda.... actually, any ionic solution will do.

The water does not need to be boiling, either.... higher temperature simply speeds up the reaction (and makes the baking soda/salt/whatever dissolve quicker).
