That guy's mistake was being nonchalant when he observed the bison across the road. 100 yards is a minimum safe distance IMO. 30 yards is just asking to become a lawn dart. I encountered one at 50 yards in Yellowstone and immediately changed direction. Heck, I even approach "dead elk" with extreme caution - until I'm certain they are meat. I'm not even "bad enough" to toss a deer into a tree. I yield to the bigger beast.
