I came across a Ruger 96/44 Lever action. No box or rings but, very clean. They ( the gun shop ) told me $350 plus the govt. I don't know very much about the model, so can anybody share their thoughts or knowledge on this neat carbine? Oh, it did have one mag.
Thanks, dogdays

Greetings,

The 44 is a great short range deer and hog round within about 150 yards. As far as, the model 96 is concerned, I do not own one, but I have not heard any bad reports on the rifle. Like most Rugers, it is built to last. If you price some other 44 lever actions, think you will find the price is good.

Don't know what they are actually selling for, but around here the typical gun show asking price is $500 or better. The 96/22 is usually priced around $300.

Last one I saw sell here was MINT, like new. Sat on the shelf about a month and brought $505.00 plus tax.

Sounds like a very good price. I have one and enjoy it very much. A real thumper out to 100-150 yards. A fun gun to load for, and to shoot. Extra magazines are still available from Ruger and elsewhere. A great companion to any 44 magnum revolver. You will be amazed at how slick the lever throw and action is. A really fun Carbine. 8) 8)

Check out Gunbroker and see how much these things sell for - that's a great price, the thing is an absolute ball to shoot. Magazines are about $22.00 and Burris, other companies make rings.

The thing is handy and reliable, shoots OK groups (about 2") at 100 yds. A short, low powered scope like the Burris Timberline sits nicely and is inexpensive but excellent quality.

If you're looking for some big wallop in a light package you can't go wrong.

I paid $425 for mine so the price is good. Lever throw is smooth and if your hand is big enough, you only have to flick your fingers to get it to cycle. My only complaint is the mag only holds 4 rounds...but on the flip side, if you're good enough, you only need one. I love mine. I've only shot it at 100 yards with about 2 inch groups give or take. As long as the bore looks good I don't see why you shouldn't buy it. Just my opinion :D

like the others have said, this is a good price and if it is good shape i'd grab it....a fun gun to shoot!
