Hi Folks!

Time for another Ruger, & was thinking about a rifle this time around.

I like the idea of the .357 cartridge in the new 77 model. Being stainless & capable of taking rabbits to Deer sized game, or for shooting up a few tin cans or steel plates should be fun. Even for black bear with 180 gr cast bullets & slow powders would be comforting out in remote areas here in northern Ontario.

Certainly like the idea of a second magazine with different cartridges for other reasons. Being a shorter barrel & lightweight would be fantastic for those long trails & thick brush work. Easy & quick to attach/detach a mag sounds like another great reason/excuse to own one of these...
Another advantage, I see is the ring mounts that are built in to these guns which I may take advantage of very soon. The eyes are not quite like they used to be.... :(
I do reload for my other .357 guns so this one would be easy to feed.
Please add your thoughts, I'd be interested in hearing them! :)

Thanks..... 8)

I have one on my short list of guns to get. I have the 77/44 but would prefer the .357 to be a stable mate with my SP101. Seems like a great combination to me.

I have had one for a couple of months now. So far I am liking it. I put a 1-4x Leupold Shotgun scope on it and at 1x it is very quick on target. Action wise I have not had any issues feeding rounds from the mag but some do feed better than others. The two listed below feed flawlessly. The trigger does need some work to lighten things up a bit.

Accuracy wise, it seems to like the heavier bullets. 180gr XTP w/ 12gr 2400 (1400fps) gives close to 1-1.5" groups at 100yds. I am sure if I had higher magnification I could tighten things up a bit. I also shot some Lyman 358477 150gr SWC bullets I cast in #2 alloy (midrange hardness) and if I keep the speed near 1100fps accuracy at 50yds is about 2". 100yd groups with this load is not as good, maybe 4-5". I have on order 180gr cast Penn bullets to try. If they work out I might get a new mold.

Hope this helps.

My 77/44 has sold so it's just a matter of time before I run across a .357. I think I will try your scope set up, sounds like just what I would want as I never shoot over 100 yards with anything anyway and I would be very with 1.5 at 100 with any gun I'm holding. :)

Looks good to me. With the LEVERevolution, it will do 1600 fps out of an 18" barrel. That round would be pretty rough from an SP101, though I'd think. With the Volquartsen sear, these 77's are great rifles.

I'd recommend that you immediately trade out the included scope rings for taller ones. Ruger will do it for free, but only if they're unused. The default ones barely give room to cycle the bolt with even a 32 objective.

My latest .357,.....I had it out yesterday to try it, & I like this one....

Happy New Year everone & enjoy your Rugers/guns!

That is one SWEET 357mag bolt gun. I am so glad they started making them. Perfect for inexpensive target practice and more. :D :D

I have the 77/357 and I love it. Very accurate with iron sights, very light weight, and yet very little recoil. It's going to be one of my favorites. Of that I am sure. I also have the 77/44. Very similar, but the recoil on the 77/44 is probably close to that of a .308. Both are very nice rifles. Glad I bought them.

I saw one at the big box in the big city. I admit it was cool, but this one had a pretty rough action and a steep price tag for what I thought it was. I've seen them suppressed and they are pretty darn cool.

I am waiting for one with a bit better fitting myself. I want one to mate up with all my other .357's. The one and only copy I saw had very poor fitting, so much so the safety would not lock the bolt. I actually thought the little lever might fall out. My 77/44 was tight and everything was crisp and clean including the safety. Price was a reasonable 549.00.
