i converted this .17 HMR from .22 WMR by installing the Volquartsen barrel on the M77 action.

it shoots very well, it's accurate to the near extreme...but...the spent .17 cases 'bulge' in the rim (the FLAT portion that contains the priming compound) as if it has excessive pressure and the action is strong enough to handle it but the case will not. there is not problem in extracting/ejecting the spent case

i have yet to have a case failure, no FTF's or FTE.

any one else experience this with the .17 HMR 'conversions'?

Not uncommon with any 17HMR conversion or factory original. Both my Remington 597 semi auto and a Savage 93 bolt action exhibit this at times. Even split the case necks on occasion. Seems to be a lot of inconsistencies with ammo. I have the most issues with hornady and the least with cci tnts. I would not worry about it. Only suggestion I have is keep the chamber nice and clean and try a variety of ammo.
