What's with all the Ruger 480 on gunbroker? Did Ruger do a cleanup run or is something new coming out that will make the 480 less desirable?

Jeff

AFAIK the SRH in 480 was discontinued by Ruger... a few months back you could get them for 480-500... now that the dealers are out of stock, the prices are going up.

Ruger is making new production 480s starting about 3 months ago. It is not in the catalog or on the website but they make some every week. I think maybe next year it will be put in the catalog.

Well, that's good news. At least for me. I have bene trying to save up for one, but other things keep getting in the way...

I will probably never be able ot afford a full blown custom, so the 480 Ruger was going to be my do it all gun as far as hunting and bear defense while fishing in AK.

Are new production .480s different from previous ones? Other than the small number of 5 shot .480s, the ones I'm aware of are 7.5" and 9.5" target grey SRHs and Alaskans.

They are making new SRH's in .480 with the standard stainless finish? Not just Alaskans? This is news to me and would push me off the fence. I _almost_ bought a 9.5" several times but really don't care for the target gray finish. I know, it can be blasted off but it would be nice to buy what you want!

I've got an Alaskan in .480 that is standard stainless. And my early production .44 Magnum SRH is stainless. I'll have to start to seriously look around for one of these new .480's if they are really out there!

Mustang99,
If ruger is producing the 480 again in stainless where are they? All I see (for example on Gunbroker) are used target grey finish 480's.
Have you found a supplier that has the new production?
Thanks

They are not making a lot. If they make 20-30 a week to see how it goes you will have a hard time finding one in this big big country. Thats a few guns for a lot of stores. Your best bet would be to call Southport sales and ask them to help you locate a new one. They make A LOT of 454 Alaskans and everyone complains that they can't find those either, I feel there pain but the big big country theory above is in effect with them as well :)

Have your FFL check with Williams Shooters Supply- Last time I was privy the 480 Ruger were back on the list-So I figured they were more cleanups. Did not recall if the model # was different.

The question was not answered if anything other than the Alaskan is being dribbled out. Those awake have known for some time that .480 Alaskans show up on occasion.

Do you KNOW that the longer guns are also being made?

Thanks in advance for the information. Robert

They had the 7 1/2 & 9 1/2 inch versions listed- 0 balance.
I bought some of the last ones they had in early 2010.
The price was to good to pass up.
They also have the 1911 Ruger listed on their sales list but also 0 balance.
They are being made.
When they actually show up is any ones guess.

With the numbers that have gone out in 7.5 and 9.5 this year it will be like finding a needle in a big, big haystack. More will come in time.

There have been no reports of any new .480s other than Alaskans. Mustang99 has alluded to new longer barrel .480s but will not say that he KNOWS FOR A FACT they are being made. What gives here?

Because I can't tell you how I know, that's what gives. If you believe me great, go look for one. If you don't cool.. I'm just trying to help keep people informed since its neither on the web nor in the catalog. But if you need proof from me, your not going to get it.......

I don't care what color they are. But I do wish they would go ahead and make them as 5 shot models...

Sixshot has a stainless 5.5" Ruger Bisley he had converted to a 5 shot 480 Ruger. He took an elk with it last season IIRC .

Why so many 480's listed?

They must go in sperts. I was on a while back and found None Listed. I was on a couple days ago, and several were listed. Like was said, they are going up in price.

I sure hope Ruger keeps making a few, the 480 is way to good a cartridge to go away.

Bob

Williams Shooters Supply has 35 480 SRHs in 2 barrel lengths for $499.

Have your dealer order one for you.... 8)
