450 Marlin BFR

Since these are like big Blackhawks, I thought I'd post this...

Out of the box BFR accuracy never ceases to amaze me. I had my 450 Marlin out yesterday and did some 100 yard shooting (open sights, bench rested). The load was 49.5 grains of 3031 under a 405 grain soft-point Remington:

10 shots, with the other 3 just missing the top edge of the plate (just missing as in 1/2" - 3/4"). If scoped I have no doubt I could put five shots in 2" or less at that range.

I shot one of those in 45/70. That is one butt kicking handgun. Not something I would want to shoot very often. Think I shot about 10 rounds, and that was all this old boy wanted. The only thing I ever shot that kicked as hard, if not a bit harder, was a TC Encore in .308.

A local shop had a used one some time back so I got to observe and handle. They are very impressive revolvers, and certainly not lightweight.

That is some impressive shooting for such a handgun and round.

I had to look at this one as it brought back memories. A local friend/shooter bought one several years ago. We were at one of our weekly matches, and he was commenting on how much recoil it had and how no one would shoot it more than once. I rebuted him and allowed I'd shoot a cylinder full. He handed me the gun, and I promptly shot a cylinder full. THe range only had 25 yds available, (indoors) and I shot a nice 1-1/2" group off hand with it. He shut up, and others were a bit impressed. It is a handfull, but accurate!

Yup I bet it's a handfull, The largest thing I shot was a 270 in a contender,Wasn't bad at all ps
