45-70 #3 question

There is a 200th year liberty #3 about 50 miles away. I asked him if the butt plate was plastic or steel - he isn't sure. If it's plastic I'll pass - for metal I may make the trip. Anyone know when they started using the plastic?

The Liberty #3A .45-70 is listed as a variation that could include either the aluminum, or plastic butt plate.

If the price is right, I would not necessarily count it out. And if you want it as a shooter, the aluminum butt plates can be had, thru forums such as this one.
