444 Encore

I put this one together with a blued Prohunter frame, walnut furniture, and an MGM barrel with a BellM oversized hinge pin. I mounted a Vortex 2-8x33(?) Diamondback on it. Havent shot it yet but i think when i get around to it, it will be a nice little shooter. That’s a 21” barrel.

I've always thought the 444 was an underrated caliber. I have a friend who has a Marlin,, he'd NEVER sell. I've shot it,, and helped him load for it. Accurate as heck.

I agree. I have a Marlin 444P, with the 18.5” ported barrel. It is the second one I have owned. Traded the first one for a horse. Horse is long gone, as is the rifle. I won’t sell this one.

Hi it will be a Thumper for sure I just picked up a 1970 444 Marlin with the high comb stock I was planning on keeping it for deer season next year but one just sold on GB for $1300 and it is not as nice as mine so maybe I should auction it off :shock: :shock:

WOW! I have owned a couple of those as well through the years...

The ones I had, I bought for 200 and 400 I believe, and was able to make a few bucks off them when I got ready to sell them. They didn't bring that for the both of em though!

The .444 was hamper by it's original concept .

It was marketed to emphasize the ft lb of muzzle energy, by means of driving a conventional 240gr jhp Really Fast , with corresponding slow twist rate. The later 265gr jsp was an attempt to correct.

If it had had a proper faster twist rate for 300- 350 gr bullets, the .444 could have taken a significant chunk of the .45-70 market share .

My pistol, shown on earlier post, is actually a contender and won't handle full-house loads, but is tolerable with Trail Boss.
I can only imagine factory ammo on an Encore. Whew!
In an offhand stance, the wrists and elbows act as McPherson struts to detent rearward thrust. A rifle gives it straight back.
