Do any of the #1 gurus know how many #1H's were made in 416 Rigby. Unless a circus elephant breaks loose and goes rogue, I can't imagine ever needing an elephant gun but one never knows. Owning anything that says "Rigby" on it would certainly be cool. Thanks; Mike

It falls into that cataloged number rather than a special through a wholesaler and there fore Ruger will not release the number made. I would call it uncommon but not rare.

just in case a rogue elephant or a cape buffalo comes from the swamp, I wanted to be prepared :)

So do I have something that might be worth something? (I know the rounds are!)

I do not know, but it is nice to know that there are others who drool whenever the hallowed name of Rigby is uttered. I would love to one one in .416 Rigby and have handled several, but alas the dollar is weaker than the desire. Of course the other names are the .275 Rigby at the light end and the .300 H&H & .375 H&H magnums in the middle. I sold my #1 in .375 H&H years ago and have always regreated it. Oh well, that is not the only one I have regreated selling and it probably won't be the last. TD

Does anyone have experience in removing the front sight blade on a Model 77 magnum. I have tried soaking it in solvent, used a brass drift and hammer and it will not budge. The little plunger works just fine. I have struck it pretty stiff but no go.

I can't answer on how many 416's were made but it was one too many! A friend bought one and let me try it. Despite a good tight grip, the recoil broke my trigger finger. I've fired the .460 Weatherby magnum and it was not as brutal as that Rigby. OUCH!!
Cheers,
Bill

Yupp Nothing like the 416 Rigby! http://mail.aol.com/38466-111/aol-6/en-us/mail/get-attachment.aspx?uid=29157662&folder=Inbox&partId=1 Not NO 1s but 416s I also have a early Red Pad No 1 416 I'm thinking not Rare like the lightweight M77 Magnum with M134- prefix in the photo.

I shoot a 416 Rigby and all rogue elephants and hippos disappeared ...but I am ready if they reappear...so owning one must work.

I found one in a local shop for a steal. I buy any Ruger No 1 at a steal no matter what caliber. A month later I found a set of dies in another shops bargain bin. So it must have been divine intervention. My wife shot it and didn't complain about the recoil being too bad and she is a small women. The only draw back is there is no cheap ammo made.

Take advantage of that huge case and strong action and load it up to around 2700fps with a 400gr bullet aka 416 Weatherby. It will knock you out from under your hat and make you see stars.

I had a #1 rechambered for 460Wby. When the builder asked how did it shoot? I replied
"If I see an orange, blue flash I know I hit my target. But if I just see blue, I missed"

It took him a while before he asked what I meant.

"if I see the orange muzzle blast, I had my eyes open and on target when I pulled the trigger, But if I just see the blue of my eye balls being slammed in thier sockets, I had my eyes closed and flinched"

It has been a real long time since I have shot any thing with an umph, but most folks that shot the 416Rby and the 300WM in either the #1 or 77 thought the 300 "kicked" harder

I've looked a couple times at !H's in .416 Rigby when I see them and they do show up here in town. May even be the same rifle each time as they aren't cheap to shoot and I bet the do give you quite the shake when you press the boom switch. I have the 77 RSM in .416 Rigby and I know how that feels on the shoulder AND wallet, and my 1H .375 H&H has a more abrupt recoil and less wallet pain.

I hear you on the Rigby. I had to have an elephant gun and found a nice used number one in 458 win mag. I nought 150 new Winchester brass and 20 new norms brass and dies. The Winchester brass were $25 per 50. I paid $500 for the gun. Downloaded its a really fun big bore plinker. Loaded up, it hurts. I know it's no Rigby, but my neighborhood has been pachyderm free ever since.
