41 special

Here's a link to John Taffin's Sixgunner.com with a good article on the .41Special. http://www.sixguns.com/tests/tt41spec.htm

I am in need of load data for the Lee 195 gr. swc. Anyone here load this bullet/caliber?? thanks, greg

Lee: I have Unique Titegroup and red dot. Any suggestions? (other than buy green dot!) :) thanks. greg

The difference between Green Dot and Unique is one grain (1 higher for Unique that is). So with the 195 grain try 7.0. 6.0 grs with the 230 Keith.

Quality sells it, but it's not cheap:

For $61/50, I'll trim Mag.

Green Dot is great stuff. I know I'm always pushing it, but I can't understand why it isn't more widely used in handgun. Takes 1 grain less to hit Unique velocities and it burns cleaner.

Why shoot 41specials in a 41mag gun? Why not just download the 41mag? Less cleaning of the chambers.
7.0-8.0gr of Unique and a 200gr bullet will give you a medium load in a 41mag. 8) 8)

If the gun is already a 41 Magnum that's all I do. Load Mag brass with reduced charges. In fact, my favorite light 41 Mag load is 7.0 of Green Dot with a 230 Keith.

The 41 Special really shines in frames that can't handle the Magnum. Platforms like the SAA. Other than those, you're better served with the Mag.

Where did you find 41 Special brass for sale?

There was a guy selling it sometime back at very fair prices. Both here and on other forums. Went by "dixieXXX" (?) IIRC. He had a run of 50,000 made. Rather suddenly he was sold out. I would not be surprised if Quality bought the balance. Nice Starline stuff of course. I bought 500 for my Single Six. I use 6 grs of Universal with a bulk cast 220 gr SWC that shoots pretty well.

Agreed. Like you, I find it nicer than Unique for the "4" calibers.

Plus, I can "borrow" it from the eight-pound containers my wife buys for reloading shotgun shells and she doesn't notice . . . or at least she doesn't mention it.

;)
