.41 Mag question

Hey folks how y'all doin? Good I hope . I need some advice on loading for the .41 mag . I just aquired a 3" round butt 657 and for defence i'll be carry[ing Winchester SuperX 175gr Silver tips in the gun .Can someone subjest a hand load that will apxroxmate this load for pratice.The Winchester factroy load is moving at 1250F.P.S. and is light recoiling and very controlable,accurate and hits with plenty of punch .
I'd like to reload something as close to this as I can for pratice as the factory load cost 26 bucks a box for 20 rounds .Out of this 3" bbl gun it's a great defence load .Not too much muzzle flash and quick follow up shots .Any help would be greatly appercated .

Hey Lou, I don't load 41 mag, but I took a quick look in the Sierra 5th Edition manual and they have 170 grain jhp bullets. They use a 6" bbl S&W model 57 and are getting 1300 fps with CCI 350 primers and:

10.9 grains Unique
14.6 grains Blue Dot
20.4 grains 2400
19.0 grains AA9

That should give you an idea of where you might start.

That sounds just kike what I'm looking for. I looked on the IMR web site and they list a 170 gr bullet with both H-110 & Winchester 296 at 1500/1600 F.P.S. which I think might be just a bit hot for defence loads. The Winchester web site list the 175gr Silvertip at 1250 F.P.S. from a 4" vented bbl ,which should be close to my 3" bbl .They also list a bunch if loads for 200/210 gr bullets,but I think with these heavyer bullets 'I'll lose controlability for quick follow up shots and are geared more for hunting than defence The loads you listed should put me right where I want to be .

I found AA9 produced sufficient velocity with the best accuracy under the Sierra 170g JHC.

At some time in the last couple years, the mfctr of Blue Dot recommended against using it in the .41 mag. Might want to check on whether this is still the case.

I use a Sierra 170 gr HP with 8.6 gr of Hodgdon Universal.
