.357 Lever Action

I want to get a .357 lever action rifle as a companion to my .357 New Model Vaquero. Function and reliability are of the utmost importance. Which would you recommend, Marlin or Henry?

I do SASS and like the Uberti Model 73. It works very well with little or no breakdowns. The Henry is a good rifle but is not up to the Model 73. The new Marlins made now are hit or miss, if you can get an older model they work good.

I have a pre-safety model Marlin, excellent ! IIRC Marlin changed their rifling from Microgroove to Ballard at the request of the CAS/SASS shooters, Ballard being better for lead bullets.

The only .357 lever action we have is a Henry and we like it a lot. We do have Marlin lever actions but not in the .357 caliber. Both brands are great rifles!

I have a Rossi, it's a fine rifle. I didn't want the Henry, because of the tube magazine loading like a rimfire. My favorite part of a lever action is being able to top off the magazine.

Rossi.......I have three....(357/.45/.454).....looking for a fourth....(.44).......I like them.

I really like my old 45 Colt Rossi, too. It's marked 65 SRC but is the same as the 92 they market now, minus the safety.

I got to handle a lot of guns when I worked at Cabela's. This old Rossi has a nicer action than any of the Winchesters or Marlins I handled. I imagine they will all smooth out some after using them for awhile. The Henry is a well made gun, but if you don't like the loading feature then...

If you ever want to mount a scope because you got old and can’t use iron sights, the Marlin is a lot more betterer for that.
I have almost gotten that old.

I'd consider an older Marlin or Winchester '94, but if I were to buy new it would be a Henry. Preferably with the color case-hardened frame, with a Big Boy Steel as my second choice.

Henry. I'd also recommend watching their maintenance videos, and whatever similar info (user manuals, etc.) is available for the others mentioned above to help you decide. I like to know what I'm getting into before I buy any firearm, and Henry was no exception.

^^^^^^^^^^I've got to go with this one ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ If you don't get a Marlin. They are just good guns. My son and I both used Marlins for SASS, and they worked great. Wish I hadn't ever sold my 45 Colt cowboy.

Henry is the last one I'd pick.

All the Rossi's I have had over the years have been good ones.
I have never modified any of them other than to use them.
Most have been a little tight at least at first.
But they have worked great for me.

The B-92's I have are great in looks, fitting and function.
They were smooth when I got them.
These are my favorite.

The model 92 is my favorite lever action.
I have owned and shot marlins and 1866's and like them.

But the model 92 just seems to be so light and handy to me.
