Went to the annual reenactment of Washington's crossing of the Delaware today

For people not from this area, Valley Forge to the crossing is a long, long walk. About an hour by car.

Those people were dedicated to the cause!

It should be noted that the men who stuck with Washington and the Continental Army did not come out of a unified, single minded, people. There was a civil war going on with substantial support for the Crown and an even larger body of opinion that was passive or wavering in their support of the war and Revolution. And the further West and South you went the support for Revolution flagged even more.

So the Continental Army's achievements were not realized under conditions of national unanimity but in spite of significant divisions that makes those achievements even more substantial. And that picture remains intact today in the uphill struggle for freedom from oppression at home and abroad. Winning back lost ground to the tyranny of the left in the educational system, the mass media, and the government has only begun and is far from assured.

I have participated in the Crossing Reenactment since 1991, the boats didn't make it across this year, low water and high winds. Washington's plan was for a three pronged attack, only his forces made it across.
We have people like that in our day. They were at Normandy and the Bulge, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, the Pusan Perimeter and Frozen Chosin, I met plenty of them in my Army days 1967-1971. Your local LEOs, volunteer firemen, paramedics. Ill let you nominate your candidates.
