Lee Martin
Hunter
I'm reconnecting with some of our old rifle projects and this is one of my favorites.
We designed the .240 Incinerator in 1992 and assembled the gun in '93. It's basically a .264 Win Mag necked to 6mm and improved (minimal body taper, 35 degree shoulder).
The action was completely homebuilt....everything from the main receiver to the bolt. Same goes for the reamers and dies. Other features include:
- Jewel trigger set to 2 ounces.
- 28.5" Douglas blank, 1-12" twist
- McMillan benchrest stock painted with black lacquer
- All of this was pillar bedded
- The trigger guard and buttplate are also in-house and done out of aluminum
Using very slow surplus powders like WC860 and WC872 and commercial propellants like AA8700 we've achieved 4,400 fps with a 70 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip.
Unknowingly Ross Seyfried built his 6mm Mach IV the very same year. He used fast twist barrel though for 95 - 105 grain bullets.
Just thought I'd share this project. I haven't had the gun on the bench in 10 years but hope to work with it again this fall.
