Color me crazy, I find odd things interesting .. .. ..

Why is the sight-plane taller in relationship to bore center to the top of the front sight on most .22 pistols I shoot ?

Example: My Beretta 96A1-.40S&W is approximately a 1/2 inch from the bore center to top of the front sight and my MARK III 22/45 is approximately 3/4 of an inch. Is it a ballistic sort of thing ?

I would think a consequence of the reciever/barrel configuration, also the complexity of the sight bases.

ie, a simple rear notch is much lower that a full adjustable. A large reciever/frame automatically has the rear sight higher

all relative to the height of the frame, including a rear sight body and blade to what is needed to "match" out on the end of the barrel...skinny barrel tall sight, bull, heavy barrel, shorter sight...just look at ANY Ruger "standard auto" versus the 'target' (MKI) setup.................put an "full sized" rear on the 'standard auto and try and match up the front blade, now THAT will be really tall front blade.........
( I know, use an 'LPA" from Brownells, and it will 'match' the standard front blade....) 8)
