I love the gun!
I had stated in a previous thread on the same - I bought mine in September 1999. Then I found the sales receipt and it was actually July 1999. 22/45 Great Eight s/n 224-26xxx bought from The Outdoorsman's in PHX.
Although Ruger's advertising always stated that the "Competition Target Models come with Ruger rings and bases", this simply was not true with the 22/45 Competition Target Models, including the Great Eight. I wrestled with customer service and the best they ever offered was to sell the base & rings to me at "factory price", which meant Ruger paid $26 for the set from contractors.
I found that hard to believe as a buyer friend once stated WHR was as tight as they come, even walking out once when the barrel maker wanted more than $11 per unit for Mini-14 barrels!
But I bought the engraved base & rings anyway and my Great Eight has worn them for a decade-plus gripping a Leupold 2x.
