22/45 question

I have never been a fan of "race-guns" But, I went to the range the other day & a friend had a Browning Buckmark .22 pistol all done up & it shot circles around my 22/45. I don't ever see me resorting to my 22/45 for SD purposes (if I do, I am more than likely in a world of hurt where it ain't gonna do any good anyways).

The Buckmark looked uhhh....different... it had a Tactical Solutions (though I did not see what was tactical about it) barrel wearing a pistol scope. Yeah...I would never take it to a gunfight...but the accuracy was amazing (he LITERALLY shot circles around me...until then, I THOUGHT I was a good shot with mine) & .22 ammo is cheap....making it a fun gun to go sit & shoot for a few hours a week at the range.

My 22/45 already has the target bull barrel on it. It is the old style, so I would have to take it in to get drilled & tapped for a scope mount. Any recommendations for glass? I have been reading various reviews...but since it is gonna be perched atop a Ruger, I figured I ought to present my question here on RF.

B-Square makes or made mounts that dont require tapping. With my ancient eyes, I need a red dot or scope to shoot accurately at any thing other than a very short distance. I use red dots mostly. Almost as accurate as a scope and much faster. I would reccomend installing a Volquartsen accurizing kit in your 22/45. Much easier to shot accurately with a good trigger.
Add optics and the trigger kit and you should be shooting right there with your buddy's Browning.

If you're looking for real accuracy, you started with the wrong pistol.

Get the 6-7/8 inch target model and install the Volquartsen trigger, hammer, and sear... then top it off with a red dot or low-power long eye relief scope. You might also add the Hogue finger-groove/thumbrest grips.

Do that, and you'll have a pistol with more accuracy than 99% of all shooters will be able to use to fullest advantage. If you can't beat the Buckmark with that setup, it ain't the pistol.... it's the shooter.
