22/45 dovetail mount for red dot??

I've decided to upgrade the tube style dot on one of my 22/45 pistols and got the idea I wanted to mount this in the rear sight recess. I have a good reason(well, it seems good from my end) for dispensing with the receiver mounted base. I'm attempting to get one of the mini dot sights mounted far enough back to allow the pistol to fit the only holster I can find that also works with the muzzle device. I'll still have to modify the holster but it won't be nearly as invasive as making room for the rail and tube sight.
I have a Fobus that works with the rail but can't be modded to make room for the 1 1/8" muzzle device w/o destroying the structural integrity. The generic type nylon holsters are so crude and ill-fitting that I don't trust them for field carrying.
Open to suggestions.

EGW makes a Mk II,III and IV mounting plate for various Red dots that goes in the rear site dovetail. However, it's made to take small red dots, not tube-types. It is available in models to fit the Docter, Burris Fastfire, Vortex Venom and Viper and several other similar red dots.

I did some further investigating and have to re-think this project--$50 for the dovetail plate and $200+ for the mini-dot. Maybe start topping off the piggy bank before jumping into this.

Well, a $20 Weaver rail and a $35 red dot will work, sort of, but I'd go for the proper mount and a good red dot. As the cliché goes; buy quality, cry once. Trust me, paying for a Vorex Venom or a Buris Fastfire is well worth it for reliability.

That's what I have now. I'm trying to streamline the optic to better fit a holster.

In the interim, I'm considering a Burris Fastfire III and shortened Weaver base which may be just enough w/o serious butchering of the holster.

That should work. I cut down the factory Ruger Weaver rail for my older MkII 22/45 so it ended just behind the barrel/receiver interface. There was enough rail left to mount a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot and the gun so equipped fit fine in my Black Dog Ruger holster.

A more versatile approach is to get one of ShopRuger's Picatinny rails. They are only about $15 and can be mounted two ways, either keeping or removing the rear sight or sawed off to your desired length. The multiple slots make it much more versatile than any Weaver rail.

I have a spare factory base on the way. I'm going to cut it back to the forward screw and taper the edges as much as possible. I'm going to try a Burris FastFire III as it seems to have the lowest profile rail interface. If I like the set-up, I'll start saving for a dovetail plate adapter for one of my 22/45's that isn't D&T for a base.

The dot optic makes a tremendous difference in hit capability for me. Yesterday I ran a few shots through a 5.5" 22/45 with a cheap red dot that I've used to start new shooters. 15 yard group was dime sized and it was 10 for 10 on the 8" swinger @ 80 yards(off sand bags).

The EGW base plate is back in stock @ Midway so I have one on the way. Natchez had the Burris FF3 with the high$$ AR rail riser w/ears on sale so one of those is shipped my way. Maybe look into selling the AR mount later as it's not anything I need.

Looks like I messed up. Ordered a JP dovetail base and found it doesn't fit the FF3. OOPs.

I was just looking at these bases as well. They are sight specific. The "Docter" base fits the FF3, as well as the Vortex Venom and Viper.
