22/45 Advice Please

Due to a motorcycle accident which left my SIL in less than tip top condition my daugther wants to sell her 22/45 Ruger. I'm not up on these handguns other than it's just a standard pistol perhaps late 80s or early 90s production. It's a blued model in fine shape & little fired. I'm going to buy it so it stays in the family.

The question everyone asks: What's it worth?

Remember you can buy a Std blued 22/45 brand new all day long for well under $300 and that's the newer, much better looking model.
Personally I'd offer about $150

I've been looking at a used 4" blue bull barrel 22/45 in a store down the street. They want $224 for it with one mag. and box. They won't budge. I'd like to have it because it seems they're not made anymore, and I like the 4". With tax it will be around $240. I'm gonna pass even though I like it.

Paid $199 couple of months ago for Mark II 22/45, stainless, in mint condition. Not even marked up in the rubber grips. So, $200 seems right to me. Might pay a bit more for a bull barrel but that is because I just happen to like the bull barrel guns.

$225-$250 is not uncommon on auction sites for a P512. If a P4, it might even bring more.

Why would anyone ever consider paying that kind of money for a used one when you could buy brand new for $265?

High used retail is right at $200 and your LGS would offer less than $100 on a trade or if you were looking to sell.

Can only speak for myself, just like the Mark II better than the Mark III. On the technical merits my view might be crazy but I like what I like and they don't make the Mark II any more so there you go I pay near (or even over) new Mark III costs for a used Mark II.

All I can add is I own Both a .22/45 and MK-III and they both are good shooters. I gave $200 for my used .22/45 and don't regret it one bit. Good luck with the new pistol..

Due to the his head injury we shall say he's less than friendly. My daughter wants all firearms out of the house. I only want to be sure I give her fair & more for the Ruger.

I ask a price 'cause I purchase few firearms. I tend to shoot the same ones over & over, year after year, decade after decade. So I'm not able to come up with a fair price myself even with much searching. You guys though are the experts.

I can only answer personally, but I do not like the skinny grip on the non-RP MkIII 22/45, I do not like the LCI, I absolutely hate the magazine safety disconnect, and the MkII 22/45 grip fits my hand perfectly.

Or in the case of my P512, it was LNIB and late enough manufacture to have been factory drilled and tapped. Perfect addition to my 22/45 collection. I think I paid $285 + shipping & FFL transfer, and felt like it was a great buy. YMMV

She wouldn't get $200 from a local dealer around here.

Just my opinion, but I would write up two copies of a bill of sale. Something like "seller name sold Ruger 22 S/N ##### to buyer name on 7/24/2011". And then both of you sign. Seller gets one copy, you keep one copy of bill of sale. I wouldn't put the price on the paper.

Not that it would ever happen, but having the bill of sale will help later if the original gun owner with the head injury questions why you have "his" gun.
