Rumor has it that Number 1 series of rifles will no longer be a catalogued item.

They will continue to be produced as Distributor Exclusives only.

Would be nice to have both options.

Would be nice if its only a rumour .

I purchased new 1A 280, a 1RSI in 257 Rbts and .300 RCM in 2014.

Was hoping for some new cartridges in RSI this year.

Where has this "rumor" come from? Rumor's without basis are the worst thing

Once the Shot Show announcements are made , we will know if it's fact or fiction.

It would not surprise me. The battle for the hearts and minds of customers to accept plastic is nearly won. Folks are actually singing the praises of plastic over steel and walnut. Well, not me. I guess I'm just to damned old to accept it.

I don't see any new cartridges listed for the #1 in 2015, but hasn't the price just gone up to $1449?

Not a surprise really. Low sales brought the yearly chamberings and I gotta imagine even fewer sales followed that so to make them strictly distributor models only makes sense now. 100% guaranteed sales and put the burden of marketing all on the distributors. The distributors in the past have been more likely to bring the "odd" chambering while Ruger was always more likely to keep the standards up until this past year.
Of course, I do see Ruger continuing to make a small run of the better sellers occasionally cataloged or not.

If the demise of the #1 is actually imminent, what impacts do you see on those now in private holdings?

One thing that seems likely to me is that using older #1s in so called common profiles as donors in custom rifles is over. Aside from a reluctance to meddle with a disappearing, probably non replaceable piece, the rising cost of ever scarcer "beaters" will argue against it.

For starters, one impact will be that the value/price will go up. Since most of us buy, more than sell, thats not good in the short term. Likely to be some serious "hindsight 20/20" from those who never got around to spending the $ to get one.

I too foresee an initial herd mentality jump in demand and asking prices but when the dust settles increases in actual selling prices are likely to be modest but steady -- about the rate of the constant MSRP rise.

Of course everyone will immediately have the "they're discontinued so they're rare" mentality and see them as gold and platinum. It's all supply and demand. Low demand is what's gotten the production less and less, possibly now discontinued, so that same level of demand doesn't make them worth their weight in diamonds.

I have been monitoring new listings for the #1 at one of my distributors, with no news forthcoming as of today. Last year, Ruger had released the new calibers by mid December. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I was finally able to get the #1A in 308, 280( after a 4 decade wait ), and 303 British since 2011. Maybe Lipsey's will continue the #1 into the future. Bob!!

I think Ruger trapped themselves into (possibly) ending No1 production. I think the sales were limited so they went to oddball calibers to try and appeal to collectors who had to have one of everything. Unfortunately there aren't enough of those guys around to justify annual caliber changes.

I just got off the phone with a Ruger rep from New Hampshire, he stated that Ruger WILL continue the Number One in production. He said a lot of people love them, and they would keep making them. No word on why the website has yet to be updated. Guess this is as good as the news can get for those of us who don't have enough of them. :lol:

That changed today....let's hope they are just in the process of updating the 2015 caliber choices but I am not optimistic...the new management are not interested with low volume/hard to manufacture models....

Let's hope through the distibutors we see 4 or 5 different cartridges and configurations.
