A friend of mind has a paco kelly tool and has made me a box full of dimples shells to try in my 6.5" SS. I read here that its the real deal and I need to get to the range when the snow melts.

Experiment 1 - has anyone documented the before & after accuracy of paco kelly modified shells versus the same stock shell to quantify the accuracy difference. Could you post results please?

Experiment #2
I inherited a old rusty barn grade mossberg 22 single shot that I am making into a garden sniper with low velocity rounds. It really likes these Aguilla SSS loads that shoot a 60 grain round nose slug out of a 22 short case. I figure the heavy slug will really penetrate, but will it ricochet or not transfer energy being a solid tip round? Could a person do a very minimal PK indent to promote expansion, but not mushroom it our so far to create a interference issue on the 22 lr sized barrel? Anyone try this with this round, or other sub-sonics, to promote energy transfer. Who knows - maybe there isn't enough velocity that it won't expand anyways.

OK guys - give me your thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

The SSS Aguilas really ricochet. I've had good luck with the Rem CBee22. Its very quiet. The new CCI Quiet22 is supposed to be pretty good too, I haven't seen any locally yet.

I've used the quiet-22s and they work fine into a dirt bank.

But I did shoot a gong target hanging off a chain a couple of times and they did ricochet.

Bush hog,
That was very helpful considering it talked about rifles and the shells I am looking at modifying.

Now I have to decide if the $75 is worth it, but I my friend said he may buy a new tool because he likes his soo much.

Thanks much.

I have used the Paco Kelly tool a lot.

Although I have never tested these rounds in a Ransom Rest, offhand, the improvement in accuracy is pretty amazing, assuming you're shooting a gun that benefits from such a tool.

WAYNO.

"Assuming your shooting a gun that would benefits from such a tool" Can I assume that Single-Sixes would top that list, especially the convertables, with mag cylinders and barrel specs ? Are all Single-Sixes, barreled the same ? I believe I've heard so, but.. many here qualified to confirm or deny. steve b

I can only speak of my experience.

One might assume that any Single Six convertible would have the same internal dimensions in the barrel, and in the chambers, and we understand that the bore diameter is optimized for magnum cartridges.

Within nominal bore diameters, there exists tolerances, and even the finish itself can be different between two identical guns, depending on the age and tolerance of a machine tool. The differences may be minute, but the differences can multiply, one process to the next.

So...All I can say is some of my Single Six Convertibles benefit greatly with the Paco Kelly tool, and some of my Single Six Convertibles shoot quite well without the use of the tool.
