1v .223 rarity

Hello all i'm just curious on the rarity of the 1v in 223,say versus a 1v 243 or 280?
i was told its uncommon but then my researh shows it being catologed from 1980 to 2006 is this right. Or did they not do large prodution on them?any insight would be helpful.

thanks maybe we can both find out. the man that told me this about the 223v know's more then i ever will but dates made don't make sense the 243 for 3yrs as the 280 ok makes sense but 26 yrs on the 223 don't make sense? hope we both find out

The 223 was introduced in the "V" configuration in 1980 and was cataloged until 2012. That's a LONG time and even if they only made a few 100 each year, that's still a LOT of rifles. My personal attitude is that the 223 "V" is NOT rare nor is the 6mm Rem.

With the number that show up and the length of time they were made, I would certainly consider the 243 and the 280 as RARE. I have a couple in 243 BUT in the last 30+ years out of the THREE 280 "V"s I haven't run across one at a price I was willing to pay.

While there is no definitive number the general consensus over on the #1 Group is that there are probably only a couple hundred "V"s in 243 and 280. Probably that or maybe even less for the 22PPC and the 6mm PPC.

Thanks picket pin. i was on the understading it was fromm 1980 to 2006 but then my info may be wrong either way thats along time.i have a 243 1v was just curios on the 223. have never seen one in 280. for entertainment what would a 1v 243 bring in today's market approx?
well may be more info will come up and we will all learn.

For what it's worth, I have a 1B in .223 and it's a tackdriver. It will out shoot my Colt HB Match AR15 with ammo it likes on any given day. It's not a 1V but I won't trade it if I found one.

i do stand corrected the source i got my info from was misunderstanding a 243 vs 223. while the 223 was made in much more production still seems hard to find. i really wish uger would or could release production numbers make all us ruger fan's life alot easier.

Kevin: You may have gotten the 2006 date from the lists we have in the files section of the #1 Group. The were compiled in 2006 and to the best of my knowledge haven't been updated since. There wasn't a break in production of the 223 "V" the only change was the change over to the 1:9 barrel a few years past.

Like I said, even if they only made a single run (100 Rifles) each year, after 30+ years that's 3000+ rifles in the #1 world I would just find that very difficult to list as RARE. Maybe, Uncommon when compared to the 22-250.
