1979 Harley Davidson FLH

Here is another one of my projects. I stopped work on the tractor that is in another post to get this together. I actually owned this bike about 15 or 16 years ago and sold it. I was able to by it back about this time last year. It was not quite as big of an undertaking as the tractor was. I did not repaint, it was more or less a rolling chasis with several boxes of parts. For some that don't know, the engine on this bike is called a Shovelhead because of the shape of the rocker boxes.

I have a 1993 FXR Superglide that I tore down to the frame and just started to reassemble. I put the swingarm, rear wheel, transmission and back section of the primary back in the frame yesterday. The engine should be finished soon as i finally got my engine mechanic paid a bunch of money on it.
Geeze all it takes is money and patience so you do not destroy some precious fastener or part in the process.

Very nice little project. My dad is currently rockin one in blue. I'm sportin the evo right now. Till I figure out how to put the V-Rod drive train in a new Ultra :D

I don't know what route you are trying to take, but I think the two best improvements I made on mine were going to '96 or later hand controls, and also I got rid of the banana calipers and put some calipers off of a rice rocket on it.

I've got '82 and up controls, what a difference that makes. I got rid of my nanners also, one of the best upgrades ever. It was eerie quiet when I got rid of the rear banana, I'd spent thirty years listening to those pad pins rattle.

Is that a Road King detachable windshield on there? I've been running one of those for a few years now.

Great lookin bike!! Harley sure has "the look" and "the sound"! I had an 03 100 yr Road King Classic.... I moved to Russia in 04 and knew I'd stay there for two years, so I sold my RK to my brother. Mistake.....

It is a Road King windshield off of the white bike. My wife has taken over the FLHR so I got her a little shorter windshield, and put the other one on the FLH. Nice looking shovel rkrcpa.

Nice bike ,I had a 83 XLX 61 that I sold to a buddy of mine and he still has it ,If I ever get the money [not much chance of that ] I'd love to buy it back ,he says that it's there waitin for me and that he'll never sell it to anyone else ,at least I can go ride her when ever I want,

I could definitely sell the bike for more money, but by the time I got through with that tractor, the biggest piece was about 3 ft long and I wire wheeled every piece down to bare metal. I'm not sure there is enough money to buy that tractor after all the time I have invested in it.
