I have this Security Six that, according to the serial number, was made in 1975 prior to the obnoxious warning roll marked on the barrel. Is there much of a value premium for pre-warning revolvers?

Just about any Ruger that doesn't have the warning on it will be worth a bit more but really the over all condition and rarity of a particular model will contribute much more to the value. Also, for a collector, the original box, shippers and original papers adds a LOT to the value.
There were a lot of Security Sixes made from 1970-1988 and the rarer ones are the early models (150- serial numbers), models that were made for foreign and US military contracts, law enforcement contracts and just plain odd balls that not many were made (150- s/n, 6" bbl, .38 Special - 500 made)
The one you show is very nice, clean, not much of a cylinder turn line, grips in good condition. A nice example of a pre-warning gun.

Nice grooved trigger also. Not so much increased value but a nice crisp looking example of an earlier model. A nice late model would offset it nicely with scalloped recoil shield, red ramp front sight and smooth trigger for a two gun "collection".

I very much agree too, an early model and a late model Security Six side by side show many of the improvements and/or changes over the manufacturing span of 'Six' series revolvers. An instant collection. :mrgreen:
There are a whole bunch of people that have never experienced a Security Six, and Security Sixes at a show do draw a bunch of interest.

IMHO, Security Six tops among 357 Magnum DA revolvers with 6" barrel. Just right balance of handleability, strength, durability and weight. The only other 6" I like is S&W M19/M66, but it cannot approach Security Six in strength and durability. I always dreamed of GP100 6" with half lug, but somehow lacks that elegance and graciousness of Security Six:WAYNO said:
