I have been wondering what the advantage is in having a Single Six in .17 caliber instead of a .22?
Do the .17's have two cylinders?

Welcome to the Forum!
The 17 HMR is a great little round,, but in general,, the 22LR/22 Mag Single-Six's will get more use. The ammo is cheaper & easier to find. If I had to choose only one,, as a shooter,, then the 22 convertable would be the only way to go.
However,, the 17 has a few things to enjoy if you like the different types of firearms. As for the 17 having 2 cylinders,, well Ruger did make a FEW (read rare & expensive usually) convertable 17's. Good luck in finding one,,,!

Some have said the .17 is more accurate, while the .22mag has more energy down range. The accuracy part could be true or not depending on the gun, and the ammo used.

cant see why they would make two cylinders on the .17, i dont hear much about hm2 these days....

As for the question, I dont see the advantage of a single 6 in .17, the barrel is too short to really take advantage of any accuracy gains, and I doubt many would ever shoot it past 75-100 yards, which is where it has the advantage....

I would go for the .22 version....

jmfc606, I just think of that stupid stuff on the sperm of the moment. No malt's needed, buy they never hurt; except in the morning

One thing about the .17 HMR is if you're shooting varmints in more populated areas, the slug will blow up more and not tend to bouce around as much (couldn't figure out how to spell richoshet, couldn't even find it in the dictionary). Also, as noted, it's more accurate, at least in my 22 Mag/17 HMR 10-22 convertible, so would expect it to be in a handgun as well.

hey sorry to go OT, but since your mentioned it, to keep my spelling acceptable, I use google toolbar... its free, it puts a google search on your Internet explorer (if you dont use IE, i dont know if it will work), and has a spell check button that you press before you submit your post and it identifies your spelling errors and gives you choices to correct them..... it does lots of other cool things too like let your translate web pages, automatically fill out online forms with your name ETC... i highly recommend it...
If i cant figure out how to spell a word, i just type if as close as i can, a google toolbar does the rest :D

I just went down the .17 road in Single-Sixes so I'll give you my experience so far.

I bought a stainless 5.5" in .17HMR for a few reasons, mainly because I didn't have one. I have a .17HMR rifle that is beyond a tack driver, I'd been wanting a stainless Single-Six, it gives me a Single-Six in every round they've made....

I've had it to the range three times now, I can't say the accuracy is any better than my .22 convertible or my .32 H&R. So much for that hope. I bought a .17M2 conversion cylinder from Midway for $80.00 to take advantage of cheaper ammo, dropped right in and was flawless through 100 rounds yesterday. Accuracy was equal.

Is there a valid reason for the .17 in a Single-Six? I can't come up with one other than the novelty factor. The flash and bang is kinda cool though.

The .22LR/Mag convertible is my "go to" in the Single-Six for all around fun and economy. It's just too perfect.

That was my take on them also! I traded my off to a guy that just had to have one. I personally did not like the price of the ammo!

I just bought one and really like it. I did some trigger work on it and got it down to about 1# and painted the front sight orange. These things made it a lot nicer gun. I already have 2 single six 22's to play with also. The 17 gets expensive to play with a lot quicker than the 22's
